Here’s your stupid Monday Night Football prediction

“Most of the players are too young to remember the Shanahan era, much less the seventies. John Fox was never part of the Raider hatred here. Neither was Del Rio. But, thankfully, we still have John Elway to remind them all that a loss to the Raiders is not something we accept around here.”

They say that the Broncos rivalry with the Raiders isn’t what it used to be. But, to old school fans of the Orange and Blue nothing has changed one bit. Those Silver and Blech bastards are still as hated as they ever were and they are decidedly unwelcome in Denver.

Hopefully the Broncos feel the same way. Most of the players are too young to remember the Shanahan era, much less the seventies. John Fox was never part of the Raider hatred here. Neither was Del Rio. But, thankfully, we still have John Elway to remind them all that a loss to the Raiders is not something we accept around here.

The Broncos have been mostly a third quarter team so far this season, They have gotten off to some very slow starts then managed to win by twenty anyway in their first couple tilts. Tonight that changes. Tonight it will be Oakland that makes it’s move late while the Broncos are on the gas from the opening gun. Denver will hop out to an almost instant 14 point lead, scoring once with a drive down the field and another time via either a defensive TD or a short field off a Raiders’ miscue.

By half time Oakland will be being shut out while the Broncos will have scored between 24 and 28 points.

Then, early in the second half, the Raiders will try making a game of it. They will outscore the Broncos 14-3 in the third quarter as Denver coasts. Then, when it’s beginning to feel like things might get interesting, Peyton Manning will plunge his sword into their black hearts, adding two more Broncos TDs in the fourth quarter.

Ultimately, this will be a game unfit for a Monday night – at least in markets outside of Denver. But for Broncos Country it will be enjoyable until the final gun.

Broncos 42, Raiders 17.
